I have glanced through the Samskrita Kanvicharite or Lives of Sanskrit Poets, Volume 1, by Mr. M. N. Srinivasaiengar with much pleasure and interest The 1st volume which treats of the more prominent poets who flourished from the earliest times to the end of the 8th century, bears unmistakable testimony to the author's erudition and industry. The information is gathered from all the available sources and put to- gether in a succinet and intelligible manner. The author deserves congratulations for the satisfactory performance of this self impOsql task, involving inch study and labour. Being the first work of its kind in Kannada it deserves every encouragement not only from the Mysore University and Education Department, but also firon the general public of the Karnataka country.
