ಹುಡುಗಿಯರೊಳೆಲ್ಲರೊಳು ಅವಳು ಬಹು ಚದುರೆ,
ಹುಡುಕಿದರು ಸಿಗಲಾರಳಂಥ ಚಲುವೆ;
ಅವಳೆನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿ ನೊಡತಿ,
ನಾನಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯೊಳಗವಳ ವಸತಿ
ರತುನದಂಥವ ಳವಳು ಸಿಹಿ ಮುದ್ದು ಹುಡುಗಿ,
ಹುಡುಕಿದರು ಸಿಗಲಾರ ಳವಳ ಸರಿ ಜಗದಿ;
ಅವಳೆನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೆ ಚ್ಚಿ ನೊ ಡ ತಿ,
ನಾನಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯೊಳಗವಳ ವಸತಿ. || 1 ||
ಬುಟ್ಟಿಗಳ ನೇಯುವನು ಅವಳ ತಂದೆ
ಮತ್ತದನು ಕೂಗುವನು ಬೀದಿ ಬೀದಿಯಿಂದೆ;
ತಾಯಿ ಮಾರುವಳು ಸಿಹಿಯ ತಿನಸುಗಳನು;
ಆಸೆ ಮೂಡುವ ತೆರದಿ ಕೊಳ್ಳಲವುಗಳನು;
ಆದರವರಲ್ಲದಿನ್ನಾವ ಜೋಡಿ, ಪಡೆಯಲಾರರು
ಇವಳ ಸರಿ-ಸಮ ಸಿಹಿ-ಮುದ್ದು ಕುವರಿ.
ಅವಳೆನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿ ನೊಡತಿ
ನಾನಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯೊಳಗವಳ ವಸತಿ. || 2 ||
ನಾ ಬಿಡುವೆ ಕೆಲಸವನು ಅವಳು ಬಳಿ ಇರಲು,
ಅವಳಲ್ಲಿ ಎನಗಿರುವ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಯಷ್ಟೊಂದು;
ಬರುವನೆನ್ನೊಡೆಯ ಶುದ್ಧ ತಿಗುಳನಂತೆ,
ಹೊಡೆಯುವನೆನಗೆ ದನವ ಬಡಿಯುವಂತೆ-
ಹೊಡೆದುಕೊಳಲವನು ಅವನ ಕೈಲಾಗುವಷ್ಟು ,
ಆಕೆ ಯೊಬ್ಬಳಿಗಾಗಿ ತಾಳಿಕೊಳುವೆ ನಷ್ಟು.
ಅವಳೆನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿನೊಡತಿ,
ನಾನಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯೊಳಗವಳವಸತಿ. || 3 ||
ಏಳು ದಿನಗಳು ತಾನೆ ಒಂದು ವಾರದೊಳಗೆ,
ಹೇಳುವೆನು ಸತ್ಯವನೆ ಗುಟ್ಟೇನು ನಿಮ್ಮೊಳೆನಗೆ-
ಇರುವುದೊಂದೇ ದಿನದಿ ಪ್ರೀತಿ ಅವುಗಳಲ್ಲೆನಗೆ,
ಅದು ಬಹುದು ಶನಿ-ಸೋಮವಾರಗಳ ನಡುವೆ;
ಅಂದು ನಾ ಸೊಗಸಿನಲಿ ತೋಟಗಳ ನಡುವೆ,
ಆಕೆ ಯೊಡಗೂಡಿ ಬಲು ಮೋಜಿನಲಿ ನೆಡೆವೆ.
ಅವಳೆನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮ ಚ್ಚಿನೊಡತಿ,
ನಾನಿರುವ ಬೀದಿ ಯೊಳಗವಳ ವಸತಿ. || 4 ||
ಕರೆದೊಯ್ವ ಎನ್ನೊಡೆಯ ನೆನ್ನ ಗುಡಿಯ ಬಳಿಗೆ,
ಮತ್ತೆನಗೆ ಸಿಕ್ಕೀತು ತೆಗಳಿಕೆಯೆ ಕಡೆಗೆ,
ಕಾರಣವು, ಜಾರುವೆನು ನಾನವನನುಳಿದು,
ಆರತಿಯು ನೆಡೆದಿರಲು, ಚಾವಡಿಯನಿಳಿದು;
ಸಂಭ್ರಮದಿ ನಡೆದಿರಲು ಪೂಜೆ ಗುಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ,
ನುಸುಳಿ ನಾ ನೆಡೆದಿರುವೆನವಳು ಇರುವಲ್ಲಿ.
ಅವಳೆನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿ ನೊಡತಿ ,
ನಾನಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯೊಳಗವಳ ವಸತಿ. || 5 ||
ಸುಗ್ಗಿ ಬರುವುದು ಸಂತಸವ ತರಲು ಮನಕೆ,
ಅಂದು ನಾ ದುಡಿದ ಹಣವೆಲ್ಲದರ ಎಣಿಕೆ,
ಕೂಡಿಡುವೆನದನೆಲ್ಲ ಪೆಟ್ಟಿಗೆಯ ಒಳಗೆ,
ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ವೆ ನೆಲ್ಲವನು ನನ್ನ ರಗಿಣಿಯ ಬಳಿಗೆ;
ಹತ್ತು ಸಾವಿರವಿರಲಿ ನಾದುಡಿದ ಹೊನ್ನು,
ಹೃದಯದರಸಿಗೆ ಕೊಡುವೆ ನದನೆಲ್ಲವನ್ನು;
ಅವಳೆನ್ನ ಹೃದಯಕ್ಕೆ ಮೆಚ್ಚಿ ನೊಡತಿ ,
ನಾನಿರುವ ಬೀದಿಯಳಗವಳ ವಸತಿ. || 6 ||
ಎನ್ರ್ನೆಡೆಯನೂ ನೆರೆಯವರು ಎಮ್ಮ ನೋಡಿ,
ಮಾಡುವರು ಹಾಸ್ಯವನೆಮಗೆ ಕೈಯ ತೋರಿ
ಆದರೇ ನೆನಗೆ , ಮತ್ತೆ ನಾನನವಳಿಗಾಗಿ
ಸಂತಸದಿ ಇದ್ದೇನು ಅವಳ ದಾಸನಾಗಿ;
ಕಳೆದರಿನ್ನೇಳು ವರುಷ (ಅಯ್ಯೋ) ಬಹಳ ಸಮಯ,
ಓ! ಆದರೇನಂದವಳು ಎನ್ನ ಕುಸುಮ,
ಓ! ಅಂದು ನಮಗಿಬ್ಬರಿಗು ಮದುವೆ-ಯೊಂದೆ ಶಯ್ಯೆ ,
ಆದರೀ ಊರಿನೊಳಗಲ್ಲ ಆ ಸುಖದ ಶಯ್ಯೆ ! || 7 ||

I love her so sincerely;
My master comes like any ‘Turk,
And bangs me most severely –
But let him bang his bellyful,
I‘ll bear it all for Sally.

I dearly love but one day –
And that is the day that comes betwixt
A Saturday and Monday;
For then I ‘m drest all in my best
To walk abroad with Sally;

And often am I blamed
Because I leave him in the lurch
As soon as text is named;
I leave the church in sermon-time
And slink away tosally;

When Christmas comes again
O then I shall have money;
I will hoard it up, and box it all,
I‘ll give to my honey;
I would it were ten thousand pound,
I would give it allto Sally;
She is the darling of my heart

My master and the neighbours all
Make game of me and Sally,
And, but for her, I‘d better be
A slave and row a galley;
But when my sevenlong years are out
O then I ‘ll marry Sally,-
O then we‘ll wed and then we’ll bed,
